Introduction

Every innovation starts with a problem to solve or a question to explore. This unit is designed for students ready to take the next step in their journey as engineers by developing a real-world product or investigating a specific area within Computer Engineering or Networking.

In this project-based unit, you’ll take the lead in shaping your own learning. Working under the guidance of an academic supervisor, you’ll define a problem, gather requirements, and propose an engineering process to tackle it. From there, you’ll move through the full cycle of design, implementation, and testing—experiencing the kind of work professional engineers do every day.

The unit is structured to build your independence and critical thinking, while ensuring you’re supported along the way. Through regular check-ins and feedback from teaching staff, you’ll refine your ideas, solve technical challenges, and develop a deeper understanding of how engineering principles are applied in practice. Whether you’re building a prototype or exploring a cutting-edge topic, this unit will equip you with valuable project management skills and prepare you for the complexities of real-world engineering work.
Individual Study 1 x 5 Hours Weekly
